El Cajon to debut East County’s newest cultural attraction on Saturday: Artivál

The city Saturday will debut East County’s newest cultural event, inviting arts lovers to Artivál, a free festival on Main and Magnolia streets.
Kicking things off at 10 a.m., the festival will feature local artists and musicians as well as food and drink vendors.
“El Cajon is one of the most diverse cities in the county, and yet, East County has never had an arts festival to call its own,” said Chris Berg, marketing and engagement manager for the city and Downtown El Cajon Business Partners’ board member.
“Artivál is our way of creating a new tradition for the community and visitors to experience the city’s creativity. Plus, the sun is always shining in El Cajon in June!”
More than 50 artists and crafters will showcase their works. For those 21 and older, there will also be a beer and wine garden.
“Artivál’s mission is clear — to transform downtown El Cajon’s public spaces into a living canvas, spark cultural dialogue, and create lasting access to the arts in a part of San Diego that’s long been underserved by creative programming,” a city statement said.
“Featuring a dynamic lineup of visual and performing artists, from rising talents to veteran creatives, Artivál celebrates the full spectrum of local artistry across disciplines and cultures.”
The art walk and food trucks run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the beer and wine garden opens at noon and runs until 6 p.m. and live music from Cassie B and Kimba Light — from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., respectively — will bring the rhythm to the streets.
