National Park Week Opens Saturday with Free Entry to Cabrillo National Monument, More

National Park Week, a nine-day celebration of all the U.S. national parks have to offer, begins Saturday.
There are more than 400 national parks nationwide, with 34 in California and many in or within reach of greater San Diego, including the Cabrillo National Monument in Point Loma.
Entrance fees, normally $10 or more there, will be waived Saturday to kick off the celebration.
National Park Week continues through April 28. National Park Service parks, programs and partners will host events and activities throughout the week, some focused on theme days, including Monday’s Earth Day, along with salutes to volunteers, junior rangers and art projects in parks.
Follow National Park Week on social media and use #NationalParkWeek to tag photos from your visits.
The National Park Service works to preserve natural and cultural heritage and provide a multitude of recreational opportunities.
Other free entrance days coming up later this year include June 19, Aug. 4, Sept. 28 and Nov. 11.
